September 8-10, 2008
The Thirty-fourth Annual NCTA Meeting and General Conference will be held at the Westin Tabor Center located in downtown Denver, Colorado. Ideally located adjacent to the 16th Street Mall, the Tabor Center is just blocks from Coors Field and the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The theme for this year's conference is "Connecting the Dots". The NCTA steps up to help meet the increasing demand for energy education in a time when some decisions are based on sound bites rather than a complete picture. Hear first hand from energy executives that can get you past the headlines and make the connections between coal, the economy and the international community.
The NCTA’s active committees continue to work for consultative and cooperative solutions to infrastructure and technical problems. The NCTA is proud to be a joint recipient of the 2008 Argus Win-Win Award for its members efforts in the development and implementation of the NCTA Joint Line Forecasting Process. We continue to have constructive dialogue among carriers, consumers, producers and suppliers as we address ongoing issues. The conference agenda will reflect the need for strong leadership and education as energy continues to take center stage. Trends and challenges arising from changes in the laws and regulations will be addressed. As always, technology as well as forecasts and studies of future coal and other energy requirements will be covered. Rail transportation regulation, the rail infrastructure and capital formation, and mitigation of environmental effects are additional topics for analysis by experts. The NCTA annual conference continues to be one of the larger conclaves within the industry, a function of its hard working subcommittee efforts and its favorable pricing. Conference fees remain unchanged from 2007. The conference, as always, is designed to allow time for attendees to make significant commercial contacts. With eight new corporate members in the first half of 2008, meeting your important suppliers, customers and associates at a NCTA event gets easier every day.
The conference will follow the usual format which allows Monday to be a travel or meeting day. The annual NCTA Members business meeting for will be held at the end of plenary sessions on Tuesday September 9. There will be an opening reception on Monday evening at the Westin, a second reception early on Tuesday evening, and scheduled events will conclude by noon on Wednesday.

You think you know Denver after attending many a NCTA meeting there, but have you missed some of these eye-popping sites? We in the coal business are used to BIG ,,, big trucks, big trains, big dollars, and being a big piece of the energy pie. Apparently, Denverites are into big as well. Stay tuned for some fun facts on Denver's love (or not) for BIG art.
The official name for the 40 foot tall, 10,000 pound bear which can be found scoping out the happenings in the Colorado Convention Center's windows on 14th Street is I See What You Mean. Mostly, he is just known as the Big Blue Bear. The sculpture by Denver artist Lawrence Argent was commissioned in 2002 and installed in 2005 for a mere $424,400.
Business casual dress is proper for all functions and sessions.
