Conference Details

NCTA Operations and Maintenance Committee is pleased to announce that the Committee will conduct its annual conference June 16-18, 2008 at the Inn at Bay Harbor in Bay Harbor, Michigan. This marks a return to the site of the 2005 conference. Some of you that passed on this location last time because it was a little “too hard to get to” must be asking yourself why the 2005 attendees demanded to go back. We think you already know the answer.

The conference will have nearly 10 hours of plenary sessions dedicated to covering the technology, design, maintenance, operations, and repair of railcars in unit train service. We will continue our longstanding tradition of hosting a private car owner roundtable discussion. The conference will continue to feature its focused 101 seminar and will conclude with the annual golf event. The NCTA remains committed to its goal of delivering the very best professional educational for your registration dollar as we tackle today’s problems, learn about emerging technologies, and plan for tomorrow’s rail environment.

"Million dollar sunsets enticed the visitors to come to this area. It was the hotel proprietors who provided the hospitality ensuring return visits. The Great Lakes steamers and the Grand Rapids and Indians Railroad brought them here. The first train, an inspections train, arrived in the late fall of 1873. The train stopped for only a few hours as Petoskey was the end of the line. A news reporter traveling from Grand Rapids remarked about the sunset being a "million dollar view." Soon after his quote was picked up by other newspapers in the major cities, Midwest tourists couldn't get up north fast enough."
